Elena studied Psychology on the University Miguel Hernández. During her last year, she completed an internship in a psychiatric clinic, where she realized she didn’t want to treat her patients’ symptoms, but to investigate how and why those symptoms appear and affect their brain functioning and therefore their behaviour. Then, she studied a Master Degree in Neuroscience at the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante (IN) under Dr. Canals supervision, with a project focused on the behavioral consequences of modulating the hippocampal excitatory-inhibitory balance. Hereafter she continued in the lab to do her PhD studies, being also involved in a collaboration with Dr. Gomez-Marin, which still continues nowadays, consisting on the development of an automatic system to track and analyze rodents’ behavior.
